03Bar entertainment
Bottle flipping, a controlled flash of fire and a bar that becomes the show, built around the exact moment you want your guests filming.
The Bar Awards Luminaries 2019, presented by House of Angostura.
01What flair actually is
Flair bartending is the part of the night people take their phones out for. Instead of a quiet pour you get bottles spun and caught behind the back, tins flipped and stacked, a short flash of fire over the shaker, and a drink that lands in the glass on the last beat. It reads as a show, because it is one.
We build it around your run of show, not the other way round. A product reveal, a first dance, the moment a founder walks on stage: that is where a flair set earns its place. A tight, rehearsed sequence timed to your cue, then straight back to serving so the queue never stalls.
None of it is filler. Every trick is practised on the same bottles and tins we use on the night, so a camera crew is never filming a dropped bottle. If your venue has a low ceiling or an open flame is a no, we tell you upfront and swap fire for glassware and speed work that still reads big on screen.
02Where a show fits
A bottle-flipping set is not right for every event, and we will say so. This is where it earns its place, and where it does not.
For a formal dinner where guests mostly want to talk, a clean, fast bar does more than a spectacle. For a launch, a roadshow, a stage activation or a big reveal, a flair segment gives your photographer and your social team something worth cutting a reel from.
The format is flexible. It can be a single set-piece at the peak moment, a rolling flourish each time a signature drink goes out, or a full entertainment slot with music and a host. Tell us the beat you want to hit and the size of the room, and we shape the set to it.
It also travels. The same crew that works a hotel ballroom will work a rooftop, a warehouse or a showfloor. We plan power, spill and fire clearance for the actual space rather than a generic setup, so nothing is a surprise on the day.
03The craftsman
Behind the show is Shahmil Lin, the bartender who started Barstylez. He was featured in The Bar Awards Luminaries 2019, presented by House of Angostura, for his contribution to Singapore's bar community. That is the person setting the standard your flair crew is held to.
Flair, done properly, is craft before it is performance. The catch has to be reliable, the pour has to be accurate, and the drink at the end has to be worth drinking. Shahmil trains the crew on all three, so a trick is never an excuse for a weak cocktail.
If you want to talk to the person before you book, you can. A quick WhatsApp gets you a straight answer on what suits your event, not a hard sell.
04Learn a trick yourself
The same skills work hands-on. A flair or cocktail workshop puts the shaker in your guests' hands, with a bartender guiding every step.
In a session we walk your team through the basics: a simple pour flip, a clean shake, and building a drink from scratch. It is a genuine team-bonding format, and people leave with something they actually made rather than a goodie bag.
It suits company days, birthdays and hen or stag afternoons, and it pairs naturally with the bar. Run the workshop earlier in the day, then let the crew take over the bar for the evening, and one booking covers both.
Give us your group size and how long you have, and we will tell you honestly what fits.
05A starting point
Flair can run as an add-on to your bar or as a standalone entertainment slot. Priced to the set length, crew and whether a full bar comes with it.
